Qigong Illustrated - excellent book for beginners To be honest, I had not expected too much from Christina J. Barea's _Qigong Illustrated_. I judge books by their cover, because good books today usually get good cover art. _Qigong Illustrated_ has a young blonde woman in a modern aerobics outfit standing in an awkward pose. I had prepared to get my red correcting pen out. I was completely wrong.Christina J. Barea's credentials are impressive, from an advanced degree in traditional Chinese medicine to her ordination as a Doaist priest. Her book is equally impressive. Though a basic introduction to qigong, th. Library Girl Reads said Well laid out with good information. I think exercise books in general tend to be difficult to read. I have a hard time picturing the movements and do much better when I have someone right in front of me showing me what to do. The photo illustrations in Qigong Illustrated were very helpful in getting past this difficulty. When I found the text instruction confusing I could look at the photo and usually figure out the movement.Barea does a great job at simplifying the Chinese terms used in qigong while retaining the importance of the ideas behind them. I love that she acknowledged what a complex. Good starter or refresher Qigong Illustrated is a very straightforward introduction to the practice of Qigong. The first four chapters offer a history and detailed explanation of the various parts of Qigong (posture, breath, intention) along with sidebars that function to answer "FAQs" or summarize the information being presented in the text. The remainder of the book is devoted to presenting illustrated explanations of various types of Qigong practice (for stress reduction, general health, etc).
